Hey everyone, my buff Orpington has been sitting in the nesting boxes all day. I have a flock of 20 hens, not roosters, and I took the eggs out from under her this afternoon. Yesterday there were no eggs under her when she did this. At night, I have to take her out of the nesting box to put her on the roosting bar. She also has a very squishy crop when I touched it just this evening, and last night I checked for an egg (stuck my finger in her vent with a lubricated glove), and didn’t feel anything. She also shakes and almost melts wherever I put her. Right now, she’s on the roosting bar and she’s almost seeming to have trouble supporting her weight. Anyone have any ideas what this could be??

She sounds very sick. They sometimes make you think they are broody when they go into a nestbox and stay, but they can be sick. Place her in a dog crate with food and water. Offer some cooked egg chopped finely. Place her on an old towel or a puppy pad. Check her crop again in the morning. Massage it a little and smell her breath.
It can be helpful to know her age, if she has been laying eggs recently, and if she will eat and drink. The color and consistency of her droppings would help also.
