Hen walking in circles

Thanks Egg! The vets office made the foot prints for me:)
I tried really hard, but i knew there was a chance she wouldn't make it, if she didnt fight the way she did she would have been gone a month ago. I'm keeping a big eye on the remaining hens to see if its mareks .. Can i vaccinate them all just in case?

Unfortunately, the Mareks vaccine needs to be given at one day old to be effective, and chicks have to be kept away from infected dander or dust in the environment for 2-3 weeks to develop immunity. They have probably been exposed already if it was Mareks. I really hope it wasn't. Avian leukosis is another possible cause. Similar to Mareks, it doesn't cause paralysis, but can cause wry neck. I certainly hope they all remain well.

Hello, thank you for you pictures and posting. I am sorry Dora did not make it, but I have learned through her experience, and I am grateful you chronicled this story. My Rhode Island came out of the coop this morning with a bent neck, walking in circles with poor depth perception. Thanks to the research here on BC I have been able to get the information I need to treat her RIGHT AWAY.

I wouldn't worry about the sevin or permethrin causing wry neck. I have used both, and many others use them often. Wry neck (torticolis) is a neurological symptom that can be due to vitamins deficiency, head or neck injury, or anything that may cause brain inflammation including serious diseases or Mareks disease. Walking in circles or walking backward are also symptoms of wry neck. I would start treatment with vitamin B1 thiamine, Vitamin E, and selenium. You can use Poultry Nutri-Drench or Poultry Cell vitamins, which contain all 3, or use other poultry vitamins in powder form to add to water. Selenium is found in many foods such as egg, meats, tuna, nuts, and others. Limit her noise and stimulation, and help her to eat and drink if she is having difficulty. Some chickens over come this quickly, some take longer, and some never recover. Here are some links to read:
