Hen wheezing... I don't thinks it's CRD...

I locked up the chickens tonight and noticed a noise... if anyone had heard someone wheezing from asthma... you know what I'm talking about. Just one though, I have had them for 6 weeks on our new property no new birds no used waters/feeders.... everything brand new.

What would make one lone bird wheeze like this? It's 10:30 and I'm going to go back out to the hen house and put her in the garage as I don't want to even think about what would happen if these birds came down with something. They came from Moyers hatchery as started pullets so something very well could be in these birds.... just laying dormant.... but I highly doubt it. They have been free ranging on pasture since the day I picked them up so no sudden changes to them since 6 weeks ago.

With my experiences it's either CRD... or something in her windpipe? I'm going out to get her to put her in the garage as like I stated... I just can't take the risk.... any input?

ETA: There is 113 birds all from the same place.... only one wheezing.

It could just be irritation from dust, allergies, or she got a bug up her nose.

With 113 chickens, I think you are wise to separate her.

Sometimes ammonia build-up in the coop causes this.

Well she looks good except for the fact she doesn't seem to be breathing well... but it doesn't seem to bother her.

It's been cold so I havn't opened all of the windows yet but the amonia levels aren't bad in the coop.... Let's hope its a bug up her nose!

I didn't even know chickens have allergies? She is now in a dog crate in the garage so my fingers are crossed. I will have an eye out for anyone else wheezing if it's just one I doubt it's a disease.

Thanks for the reply.

I have one barred rock hen that has been quarantined more times than I care to count because of her wheezing. She has never had any more symptoms and she always seem to get better. This has happened more times than I care to count over the years and all the other chickens have never done it.

I am NOT saying your chicken has nothing wrong with it, I just wanted to share my story with you.

I hope that is it... I have 200 more pullets coming from Moyers in June along with all of my broiler chicks through out the season. If this hen is sick that means she was sick before she got here as this is virgin property when it comes to chickens..... Oh my... time will tell.

If this is the case Moyers will be getting a phone call for some cancelations.

She has been in the garage all night and she didn't seem to get any better. Her eyes and nose are fine... just labored breathing. Any thoughts?

Has it been hot at your house? The first time it happened I push her beak in the water and I don't know if it cleared what was in her airway or what, but it seemed to help.

This happened with my duck on Saturday. She was dead by Sunday morning. All my other ducks are fine so I have no clue what it was.
