Hello-

i have posted recently about my broody hen who got attacked by a dog. Things had seemed to be getting better but today her “good eye” (I use that loosely because she still hadn’t opened it but we could see the eye ball moving under it) seems swollen with a foul smelling white/clear discharge.
She’s not coughing or anything and has been isolated other than with her chick since the incident so I don’t think it’s coryza. But curious if this is a bad sign that she will not see again from it.

ive been doing opthalmic ointment a few times a day and she gets vitamins and electrolyte water each day.

Pictures of how she's been healing?
Here is a pic of her “good eye” which is swollen and oozey now. She’s also a bit dirty from vitamins and feeding recently.
She has me so confused. She seems very with it mentally and takes care of the chick great but doesn’t seem to want to eat (that I can see) and I feel like today was a step backwards in recovery. It’s been 9 days since the attack.

I suspect trauma. If that's the case, it'll take her a while to act like her normal self again. How are you feeding her if she doesn't want to eat?

I know this can be frowned upon but we have used a syringe to put electrolyte water and/or mushy food by the side of her beak and it gets her to start smacking (do chickens smack? Can't think of another word for that action..) and we put a little in her mouth. We are VERY careful to NOT squirt any down her throat and to always pause for her to swallow, catch up, etc. My syringe has a short knobby end so I don't think I could get it past her tongue and mouth if i tried. I suspect she eats some of the food when she finds it too because occasionally there is a lot gone for just a chick eating.

That's completely fine! I have a round-tip syringe in case I ever need to feed a chicken forcefully. Just be sure to disinfect it every time you use it. Is she laying?

She is not laying..but she's still broody and taking care of the chick. It's actually kind of cute watching how they interact and figure things out without her being able to currently see.

What are you seeing when you open her eye with your index finger and thumb? Any bubbles or pus? Is the eyelid so swoolen that you can’t see the eye? What is the yellow material on her nostrils? Is that drainage from her eye or nasal gunk? She looks pretty injured about the comb, so she might have lost her eye or had it punctured. I would flush it out with saline eye wash from a pharmacy, followed by Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin ointment.
