What the heck is going on? She is the only one out of 3 hens. They have a huge coop and free range all day (I shoveled a large area and let them out all day. Sprinkle dirt I dug up during warm weather on area). I am worried as it is still below freezing at night and only 30s in daytime...Help!!

Also, I don't know if it's related but this hen is 2 years old and has never layed an egg.

I am having the same exact issue. A red sore looking butt with no feathers. she also seems to be straining to lay. Have you noticed this as well?

Could she be going broody? They sometimes pull out feathers when they are broody. Also, check for lice and mites. Is yours bare above the tail or like int he picture on the belly area?

I had a BR hen who had a red bare butt for 2 years. Sometimes it looked like the skin would split. I kept putting cream on it , and none of the other birds bothered her. weird thing is , all of a sudden her feathers grew in and now she has beautiful butt feathers.

Are the other gals picking at her bottom? If that's the case, I had it happen. I mixed a little blue food coloring with water and continually covered the bare skin with the liquid until it went from pink to blue skin. The others left her alone. I have used neosporin triple-action antibiotic on the bare skin also and it has helped.

I had this problem last week one of my Brahma hens had a red bottom, and it had deff. been pecked, I sprayed bluekote on her and checked her daily to make sure noone was still messing with her. She is big and roosts next to my bantams so I think it was a case of her bottom was in the wrong place at the wrong time sort of thing, but it is something you want to get under control because it can get out of hand fast.
