I realized the break was a joint, and without the money to amputate her wing and avoid secondary infection until next weekend, I had the vet put her down.
I simply don't have the heart to break the neck of an animal I have raised and coddled, and my husband is burying her for me.
There will never be a chicken sweeter than her, and I miss her already...

My favorite hen, Doodle, squeezed through the wire top on the run and landed in front of two of my dogs. I reached her before they did anything more than break her left wing and have her alone in the coop. I made sure she ate her breakfast and that the other chickens aren't interested or aggressive.
Now what? She is holding her wing away from her body, not using it at all, and slightly off balance. Do I wrap it to her body? If so, for how long? If not, do I just leave it alone and wait?
I am really worried about her.
