Hen with ear infection

Oh, I fogot to mention. I cut the feathers away from around the ear. The gunk would attach to the feathers making it hard to keep the area clean. That's when I started to see improvement.

yep air flow probably helped. Keep up the good work crj and keep us updated!

dealing with same thing here now. cheezy ear infection in one hen, ugh did it smell. glad I spotted her when I did, she was not having fun.
squeezed, cleaned, cut feathers, disinfected, antibiotics and rest, hope it works.
I got the same reaction from her though, she seems happy to have me work on it and will let me know when she has had enough.

Apple Cider Vinegar... Dr. Braggs. Mix 1/2 with warm water and flush her ear(s) daily. Then neosporin.... Try that and let us know!

I've dealt with this a long time ago. Clean and flush the ear(s) with hydrogen peroxide, then dry as best as you can with a Q-tip or cotton. Pack the ear with neosporin and leave it. Check it in a couple of days, you might have to do it one more time, but that should be it.

I am going to throw this out here becuase this is what we have used and I see many human items being used on chickens..garlic mullien ear oil...the garlic is a natural antibiotic / anti fungal, etc. In 4 kids, we only had one ear infection and this is what was reccomended to me..and it works.

This is what I found:

Traditionally used for ear mites, or infections of bacterial or fungal origin, to aid in the treatment of inner ear infections, inner ear fluid and inner ear swelling. I use it on my LaMancha goats ears as regular maintenance as well as for ear mites in my dog and cats.
