Hi All,

I am new to owning chickens. I have 6 barred rocks that are about 4 weeks old and one of them I noticed is missing her back toe. where it was is black. It doesn't seem to bother her and I think she had all of her toes when I got her. :) Is she going to be alright? Is this common and will she be able to live a normal life? I couldn't imagine her not being able to, but as I said, I am new to all of this.

thanks!

Amy

I had a raccoon bite most of the toes off of 2 pullets about 6 months ago. I kept their feet clean, put antibiotic ointment on them, and bandaged them. One of the pullets foot swelled so I gave her some amoxicillian. Today, they are toeless but happy and healthy. They can even roost with the rest of the flock.
If it looks like it is already scabbed over, I'd just keep a look out for infection. She should be OK.
