Hen with missing/raised scales on legs

Thanks! But...wouldn't dirt stick to the Vaseline? Their pen surrounds an old compost pile, so they spend most of the day digging in the soil (really great soil, that is!).

Yes, it would. Maybe you should separate her from the flock.

Nah you don't have to do all that. Vaseline the legs at night that way it has time to work. In the morning she will go do her thing get dirty legs but the dirt will absorb the Vaseline and it will fall off. You can repeat this for a couple of nights if you have to. No harm no foul just dirty legs for a really surprisingly short time.

Alrighty! Thanks a lot to both of you!

Ok! Let me know!
So I took her inside tonight and put some Vetericyn and Vaseline on her feet. I wasn't sure how much Vaseline to put on. A thick layer or a thin layer? Anyway, I tried to feel the raised areas and it just felt like crusty loose scales. I think there was some poop and dirt underneath 'cause it made my hand smell! :sick

I remember reading that the article said to lather the leg with Vaseline. Hopefully, her condition improves! If she still has dirty scales tomorrow, a bath wouldn't hurt!
