I have a hen who got really sick and I am still not sure what the cause was. When her watery poop persisted after recovery i took her to the vet. The vet thought it might be her food so I stopped feeding it. Fecal showed no worms and she was not egg bound when the vet examined her. I should note this vet has treated chickens but is not an aviary vet.
Backing up though...When she first got sick I started with 3 days of penicillin and by day 3 she was much better. After a few days of being seemingly recovered I treated her for worms with Safegaurd for goats. During the first couple days of being listless I was checking her vent and there was no indication that she was egg bound. No waddle either. I was giving her crushed up Tums in water via syringe just in case because I know egg bound leads to death. I also started giving her layer food again which I had not done in the past few months due to bringing in some new chicks and accommodating them. After almost 2 weeks of being separated from the flock I put her back out because her poop was much more normal. She had even started laying again and consistently. After a couple days of being back out with the flock her poop was watery again. Fast forward to now several weeks later and her poop is still water. It shoots out when she poops. She stopped laying again also. Could the starter grower feed not be enough for her? Would this be happening if she wasn't eating the oyster shells on her own? Is there something I am missing?
I should say she seems fine otherwise. I am not sure if it is my overactive imagination but she seems to be walking a little waddley but not so much that I am sure it isnt me being panicky. I checked her vent and nothing this time either.
