I woke up this morning with one of my year old hens on the ground unable to stand or walk. She has a mild hump on her back.
I beilieve yesrerday afternoon the previous day , my clumsy toddler son may have snuck into the coop and injured the chicken. Hopefully by accident.
She is alert, looks around , and eats.
Her feet and legs dont move

Is it possible for a chicken to recover from broken back?

Welcome to BYC. Chickens may easily be injured by young children, but they can also be injured by flying into things or jumping off roosts and fencing. If a vet locally is available, they may be able to help decide if it an injury, or possibly a spinal deformity, such as kinky back or scoliosis. In the meantime, I would keep her in a dog crate with food and water placed within reach of her. A chicken sling or chair may be helpful to get her upright if she has an injury, and you can Google those for pictures. Hopefully, it is an injury and she can recover with help and rest.

Thanks for reply. Ill look into sling idea. Hopefully she gets better. Any idea what heal time for broken back is?
