Hen with puncture wounds and exposed tissue

Hi all! I searched through similar injuries but couldn't quite find what I have on my hands... one of my hens was bitten by a dog last night. One tooth seems to have punctured an air sac while another tore tissue near the back of her thigh. At this tear, an inch long 'string' of fatty tissue has fallen out of the wound. The tissue is a perhaps half a centimeter in diameter and is attached to muscle near the base of the tear. I cleaned all the wounds and am picking up some Penicillin G today, but I am wondering what to do about that flappy tissue... Can I cut it off where it appears to just be fat? Do I push it back in and bandage or suture it? I don't think I can leave it, it seems like the wound wouldn't close with it there. Any tips?

I nearly culled her last night but then she got up and started walking fine and pecking the ground. She's eating and drinking normally... So I hope she recovers.

As awful as they may be pictures may be helpful. If you think it's just fat I would cut it off. It's most important to keep wounds clean. I would think stiches without any numbing would be horribly painful. If that's the only option I would gingerly go for it. Vetericyn can be used to help with healing. Other people swear by blu kote. For pecking of injuries blu kote is good but I was told it burns when put on open wounds. I use VCO and sugar. I use vetericyn as well depending on the look of the wound.

I was worried about how big the gash was but it already looks better! The dangling piece is gone but her skin seems peeled back, she must've picked at it a bit. I tried to give her half a children's aspirin in a corn kernel but I don't think she ate it.

The top photo is of her back and the bottom is above her thigh. The dog ripped all those feathers out and some others I trimmed to keep them from sticking to the wounds.

Other then the missing feathers her back looks pretty good. I would definitely put a saddle on her when she goes back with the flock. Even if you don't have a rooster it will protect her skin till she molts and her feathers come back. Her thigh looks pretty good too. It does look like she was pecking at it a bit.

That is the thread on how I treated my girl with a nasty wound. She was all healed until I took her saddle off. Smaller this time but same spot opened up.
With the method I used I put her back with the flock while treating her. She was much happier and less stressed so healed better. Give that thread a once over and see if that would work for you. I can try and help if you have questions on what I did.
It really seemed to work miracles for my girl.
