So sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about your friend. Wishing you peace.

Hope sounds like she is doing really well. I am still considering trying this on my hen with the same condition, although maybe smaller than yours in size. Did you ever actually determine what the underlying "condition" was that caused this?

Not yet the size isn't getting any larger so we are holding off a couple more days and see if we can just take them all out well on second thought she has had those stitches for about 2 weeks now so I'll probably do it in a little bit. Will let ya know how it goes. Keep your fingers crossed I've never removed stitches before I mean I've seen it done and it seems simple enough but I have a feeling she isn't going to be as calm as she was before!

Never heard of this being new to chickens still so I did some research and found this.

In some instances, the oviduct becomes less able to expel eggs, and one or more become trapped in the oviduct, a condition called “egg bound.” In other cases, hens ovulate egg yolks that are not collected by the oviduct and hence remain in the body cavity. This is normal for a low percentage of yolks, and the hen simply reabsorbs them. When this “mistake” is an everyday occurrence, the hen is considered an “internal layer.”

If Hope was properly taken care she may have been able to reabsorb the yolks but she was not. So we did what we had to do and remove her oviduct and I took the stitches out yesterday and there wasn't and fluid retention like I thought it was a lot of old dried skin and alot of shrinkage. She is doing marvelous we have them all on vitamins and tetramycin and they are beginning to grow some new feathers too. Gotta get some more seven dust though and treat all the flock again. After all the rain I am going to put new bedding in some time today, too.

You sure sound like you have your hands full. Best of luck with Hope and all of those lucky chickens you took in. So happy to hear they are thriving!

Well cleaned out the coop, nest boxes and run today and spent about an hour grinding whole corn for them for the next couple of days. I make my own mixture of feed using corn(of course), layer pellets and crumbles and a little oyster shell and then some in bowl for the girls to eat as a choice. And the new flock definitely needed it! And of course plenty of treats! We had a watermelon picnic with the kids and chickens it was a blast!
