Anyone else have a hen with spurs? Wondering what causes this. Not little baby nubs either, full on adult rooster spurs. She's a Rhode Island Red and is a great egg layer.

It's normal in some breeds, but in most it isn't. All it really means is that your hen isn't show quality.

I have one hen with spurs that I really thought was a rooster. I even had her in a coop full of roosters I was going to give away until the poor thing dashed out one day when I went to feed and my head rooster topped her! Then I knew something wasn't quite right! lol

I already knew that. You should see this poor girl. She was attacked by a weasel a year or so ago and barely escaped with her life. Most of her comb is gone and her tail is completely deformed, it sort of hangs down behind her. I call her droopy drawers. She lays eggs with the best of them though.

I have a cuckoo maran that has 1" spurs and has had them since she matured. She is almost 3 yrs old. I have an ee roo that is 1 yr old and his spurs are only about 1/2". I think she is the only one of my 20 hens that have it.

Both my BO' s has spurs short one but still spurs and Blondie uses hers to beat up my rooster when he tries to flog one of us humans it is so funny to see him get his but kicked by a girl.
