I have 9 two year old hens and just today after having my parents watch them for a week I found out that one of my RIR hens has a swollen eye! I think it’s from one of the other hens picking at her but usually she does not get picked on. I don’t know the cause or what to do?? They’re all mixed breeds, but I’ve never had a problem until now. Also she appears to be fine and is acting normally; clucking, walking around, foraging. Her eye is swollen but the inside is still visible and it looks a little displaced. I tired my best to take pictures, please help!

Sorry you haven't gotten any replies. Could possibly be mycloplasma gallisepticom Wich is A type of Bacteria Wich can couse a respiratory disease in poultry is she sneezing or weasing? are here eyes watery? If you have a vet that could do a blood test that would tell you if it is mycloplasma gallisepticom in the meantime I would do probiotics in her water and also separate here from the other hens I hope that made sense

Flush the eye out well with sterile saline or eye wash (veterycin makes one), if there is any pus make sure to get it all out. There are videos on line on how to remove pus from a chickens eye. Take a good look and see what it looks like. Then you can use terramycin eye ointment (over the counter at TSC or feed stores) or plain neosporin in the eye twice a day. Could be from a peck, or some debris got in there. You can wrap her in a towel to help hold her, lay her on a table to work on her, on her back if necessary, that will help calm her.

She looks completely normal and acts normal too, no wheezing or sneezing. I will separate her. There’s also no pus or anything. Neosporin inside the eye? Wot. That irritate her? Thanks for the replies though

I haven’t applied anything yet, but her eye seems to be healing. She blinks now and the swelling has gone down, she also moves the pupil. Should I still apply the neosporin?
