I have an approx one year old EE hen who was absolutely fine at noon today. Checked the nesting box and noticed she laid an egg. I didn’t see her in the run. I found her in the coop sitting in the corner alone. She doesn’t ever do that. She is quite an anxious hen and pretty much at the bottom of the pecking order. I went in and got her and put her in the run and she acted like she has a leg injury. She just sat down and my hens attacked her. She went up the walk into the coop and was struggling the whole time. I put her on the roost where she remains. She has no visible injuries and looks fine ( crop vent legs Ect ) and she was perfectly fine mere hours before and Laid her first egg of the season this afternoon. Any advice? I looked in the coop and they are all
Roosting like Normal. My polish was acting off as well like she was spooked. Perhaps a predator but not sure what to do with her now. Can Mercks come on that quickly? Like within hours? She’s so sweet and I’m bummed.

Mareks can come on suddenly. But she could have an injury. Chickens will sometimes attack another who seems lame or acts unusually. Have you added any new birds to your flock recently? Were any vaccinated? I would separate her in a dog crate or pen with food and water. Can you look at her leg for any green bruising or swelling?

No new hens at all. No vaccinations. There has been a stray cat near my coop at night but they’re secure but my run is open. She was absolutely fine hours prior…and yes yay only went after her because she sat down. They know something is wrong. I will set her up in a dog kennel in the garage in the AM. I bought some Recover 911 tonight but it’s late and they’re all roosting so I will start tomorrow. I see no visible injuries to her leg at all.
