I grind the eggshell in a mini-food processor, but not quite all to dust. She ate almost two whole eggshells that way this morning. As for the oatmeal, because I found such a soft-shelled egg yesterday, I'm eliminating treats for a week to see if the quality of her shells will improve again. All of the birds had oatmeal with DE, peeled chopped apple, and yogurt last week for the first time, and they inhaled it! That was fun to watch because it was the first time they all ate together out of the same bowl. It was like a race to see who could eat the most! I placed it up against the pen where Dahlia is living temporarily so she could stick her head through and get some, too. Ever since that day, they ALL get excited to see me coming. Used to be only Brandy understood that I would have a bite of something special every time I go out there. Yesterday and today, the adult birds seem to think that broken up layer pellets are a treat because I hand feed it to them! They won't eat the pellets from a feeder or bowl or scattered. Go figure! Dahlia thought her starter/grower feed was a treat because I tossed a handful in her pen. So funny to me because she has a good supply in her feeder. It is so much fun to spoil them, but I want their diet to be balanced, so I'm probably only going to really treat them once a week from now on, as long as they don't realize it! I was probably overdoing it because I love to have them eating out of my hand, and a day wouldn't be complete without Brandy jumping up into my lap or onto my arm or shoulder. They don't study me much if I'm not feeding them. Spoiled rotten is what they are, and I LOVE IT!!!!!
