I'm definitely feeling like a new chicken owner.... Went to feed the chickens and collect the eggs and there was a chicken in the nest. Typically all eggs are laid by 2 and it was 4:30. Didn't think much of it. Just went out there now (8:30) and she's still there and won't move. She kind of squawked at us. I'm guessing this is what's called broody? No roosters around, and I think she's probably sitting on 3-4 eggs. Suggestions?

Yes, she is broody.

If you want her to hatch out babies buy some hatching eggs and give them to her, if not then take then eggs away and get her out of the nest if she won't stop trying to set on eggs then give her some golf balls to set on.

My question: My broody (Black Cochin) sat on her egg all day and it is warm (almost hot). She did a great job keeping that egg warm.

Is it safe to eat after being so warm all day?
