Henny Penny Escaped!!

Great save Luna! I was completely freaked out just reading the story, can't imagine how you felt. I agree with everyone else, keep her with your hens. However, since she's been on her own before, and she obviously can FLY, I'd go the extra mile and clip a wing to be on the safe side. After all you've done why take a chance?

WOW! A great catch!!! I was shocked when I saw the headline too. I never saw Henny Penny fly when she was in my yard because she would just wait at my front door until I fed her. Maybe she's a Long Island Chick and not a Jersey Girl!

Ginny, as I might have mentioned in my email to you, Henny Penny always had a very healthy appetite which is 1st on my checklist as to healthiness. I also observed her for a couple of months and her demeanor and/or physique always looked good. I'm not a vet or a chicken person but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn!

I think you'll be ok with your other hens.

I think this is a feel good story for Oprah! Who has a connection?

Thank you Bobby, she definately is a healthy bird! I have some questions:

I did build her a seperate little place for now, she is still in the greenhouse. I still have to finish her little place.

Should I just put her in her own pen til she gets used to her yard? And wait a couple of weeks then put her in with the others?

The other two hens kind of gave her a hard time, but she wanted to be with them real bad. The other two hens have a small place, and they like to be out during the time I'm home. If Dorothy (aka Henny Penny) is in there with them I can't let her out with them yet, I'm too nervous, how would that go?

When I clip her wing, would she still be able to fly over my six foot fence? Or maybe she won't want to because of wanting to be with the others??

Sorry for all the Qs I want to do the right thing for her and the others. Any Advice?? Thanks in advance.

She's a real pretty bird, Is it possible that she has some bantam in her? I'll get some pictures together soon, I've been busy with her pen.

I was holding my breath too as I read your post!! After all the rescue and transport it would have been devastaating to not catch her, so glad her belly was growling louder than her flight instinct!! Also, I cracked up at TheMost's comment---
