WOW! 8 years old! I do hope that Penny lives that long! She is a sweetie. What is your Black Australorp's name?For most standard breeds, 6 yrs old IS old! Many birds don't make it past 2 yrs of age. Cherish those older hens, we are blessed to have them after 6 yrs!
I've got an 8 year old Black Australorp in the coop, she is still going quite strong! Hasn't laid in 2 years but she is very healthy otherwise. I make sure she's spoiled absolutely rotten daily, I have no idea how much longer she will go.

Hahahahahaha! That is so funny!Oh and her name is Hilda, although she responds to the name "Fats". She is huge and used to weigh in at 8 pounds.
