I have a 4 month old RIR rooster that is now beginning to crow so I have to get rid of him. There is a person who will take him who has a lot of land with horses etc., and I guess takes in unwanted animals.

It sounds perfect and I was relieved until I started wondering about my roo being thrown into the “wild” amidst a myriad of animals. Are roosters different than chickens in that they don’t need to be gradually introduced into a flock or other roosters?

I would rather give him to a family in need of food if the alternative was him living an unhappy tortuous life. He’s such a kind polite little guy right and quite henpecked, I’m sure his pathetic crow would summon the bullies.

Maybe you could ask the potential new owner how he does that? I don't think you'd be one bit out of line to ask them about each of these things. How will he introduce the boy? How many does he have now? etc.
