I had four hens setting at the same time and three hens had baby chicks . The black hen had 7 baby chicks and my other chickens killed one. Then the tan one had 1 and her and a brown hen were fighting over there baby's and they were pecking one to death . So i took the baby chicks away but i am afraid they will fight over baby's again . What do I do ?
Please HELP !

Well, the way I see it you have one of two options.

1) You can raise the chicks separately from the mother hens as you would do with hatchery chicks.

2) You can chose one hen who you deem to be the best mother and separate her and the chicks from the rest of your flock so that she can raise them in peace.

The black hen sounds like she hatched the most of them, and hasn't killed any yet. She would probably adopt all of the chicks if you let her. Even something as simple as a rubber tub with mesh on the top would work until you could work out a bigger place for them.

Right now I have a goose with three goslings roaming around, it is certainly the cutest way to raise chicks (or geese!).

Well the tan hen ended up with 2 baby's and i tried to put the black hen in with them and she was trying to kill the one that wasn't hers so i just went with #1. Tank you for all the advice !

I'm wondering the same thing, my hen just had 2 chick's and they are 4 days old. Today was the first day they came out with all the other chickens s. One of them started pecking at the the chicks. I'm worried now. Should i separate momma and the babies for awile. I fear something will happen to them!
