I've been setting up a miniature run next to the coop for our broody whose eggs are hatching this week. I put in the food and water and ran inside quickly to grab some zip ties to secure everything a bit better only to find the rest of the flock broke in and started eating the starter! Naughty things thought they could help themselves. Needless to say I've made the damn thing impenertrable now.

I estimate they only ate about 20g between them, do you think it'll be safe to eat the eggs? We're using the Barastoc Chick Starter, which contains 80mg Bovatec 20CC (Lasalocid Sodium). The package says we need to withold eating eggs for 2 weeks, but do you think I need to if they only ate a small amount?

Here's a link to the spec sheet for the feed: https://barastocpoultry.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Barastoc-Chick-Starter-web.pdf

I'm not telling you to, but I would eat them. :old At this point in life the possible level of contaminant in the egg would be so low that something else is far more likely to kill me. To be safe I would not feed them to young children.

I don't know what to tell you. 20 g doesn't seem like much to me. I do not, never, ever, give medicated feed to my chicks. This is one reason! Hens think that chick food is like candy and gobble it down whenever possible. I actually buy 20% or 24% protein chick feed and give it to the hens at times of stress, like molting, etc. They do love it! Good Luck with your Broody! :hugs

It's mainly my kids who eat them too. They love their eggs. I might have to hold off just for that. Luckily we've got about 20 eggs in the fridge so I don't think we'll need to stress too much, I've been mainly giving them to my elderly neighbour so she doesn't have to brave the supermarkets.

This was the only feed that I could find at the store other than the grower or layer pellets, we don't have much variety where I live unfortunately.
