all of the hens in our coop are attacking one of our black stars. I dont know why because they have grown up together it is like all of a sudden they have a major grudge.the hen has a bare spot on her neck but we put blu kote on it.so now all this poor hen does is stick her head under the feeder or sit way up on the nest box to hide from all the other chickens.because they are so mean she escapes sometimes and i am afriad if i put her in the coop they kill her and if i leave her out a hawk will kill her.

Can you catch her and make sure there's nothing wrong? One reasons why chickens attack is that they may sense a weakness, so maybe she's under the weather.....Poor thing....I would take her and pamper her alot....I'm always for the underdog! LOL

Wow, sounds bad.

Hens can be so mean. It sounds like your hen could use some TLC and whenever you see the hens going after her wack them in the head with a flyswatter. Also, is their a place where she can hide from the others? I had a hen that was a good flyer and when she is getting picked on she can fly up to her special ledge on the wall. If your hen is smaller than the rest, maybe you could build her a little getaway that no-one else can get in. Find her special quality and use it to help her. Hope it works out.

I have had this happen before. That bare spot on the hens neck, is it bleeding any?

My chickens almost killed a rooster before when it was attacked by a dog and was bleeding on his comb. They wouldnt stop pecking at the wound. so i separated him from the flock for a few weeks to heal and he lived.

So separate that hen from the rest of the flock before things get worse for the hen.

there is a small red bloody spot on her neck and around that there is a bare spot around that. only she can get up on the nestbox away from the others

I had this to happen to one of my frizzles. I read in one of my chicken mag. that you can take a spray bottle and fill with 1/2 water and 1/2 iodine and spray the chicken and they will stop pecking. I tried and it worked for me...Just don't get it in their eyes..hope this helps.. also read where if you will put blueing (like your mother used) in the drinking water it will also help with pecking..
