Hens crowing

I've seen a ton of threads regarding hens "crowing", but I'm still unsure of the reason. I have 2 hens that we bought as chicks in March, so they're about 3 months old. Recently they both have started "crowing". I have had animal control visit 3 times last week because of a complaining neighbor (she's also caught me outside & yelled profanities at me). Animal control has confirmed for me that they are both hens, but I'm still unsure. I would hate to have to get rid of them for being noisy. Any advise is greatly appreciated! My son loves Wolverine & Venom (Wolverine is the dark brown, Venom the big brown)

That's because they're roosters. The little one has the most obvious saddle feathers, too, so don't tell me you're getting eggs from those two.

Animal Control needs a new chicken "expert". Good grief.

When we bought them we were told they were pullets.

Yes, really. I'm sorry, but whoever told you that didn't know what they were talking about, or they flat-out lied to you. They are most definitely roosters. Trust me on this one.

Perhaps animal control needs to penalize your neighbor for crowing!

And don't correct the "expert" or they'll make you get rid of your "hens".

Yeah, well, there's that, but eventually, someone who actually knows something is going to inform AC that they're full of chicken poop and the birds will go anyway if there's an ordinance against roosters.

There is an ordinance, we are allowed to have up to 10 chickens on our property but no roosters. They crow throughout the day too, not just in the morning.

Then, you'll have to make a decision about them soon. Better now than later when your son and you are even more attached.

Too bad you have a nasty neighbor. I don't take kindly to being cursed at, like that's going to make me want to be accomodating, right?

Sorry so dumb what are saddle feathers. Same thing 3 month old crowing now.

The saddle feathers are the feathers right above their tails, on what you would consider their lower back. They grow long and pointed on roosters, hens don't have them. Cute little roosters though!
