We have lost 2 hens this week in 2 seperate pens. Not sure why or what is going on. Pens are very clean, water clean everything. The first hen that died we had just bought from a farm about 35 miles or so away and that was about a month ago. They second one I found this afternoon was hatched here last August and she was just laying a few days ago and seemed fine. The only thing I can think of with her is that we have a Cochin rooster that had been hitting the hens really hard and she did have feathers missing off her back. Last night we did take him out of the pen though.

We are stumped as to what could be wrong and would love any suggestions you may have.
We have only been at this a year

I love my hens and they are very spoiled and I don't want to loose any more.
Thanks for the help!

Unless you opened the girls up after they passed, you will never really know what it was that caused them to pass. Even opening them up - does not always tell us laymen what happened.

Mysterious chicken deaths happen.

Two weeks ago, one of my Silver Laced Cochin hens passed away. She was fine, flapping, eating jumping running at 7:30 in the morning. At 9am when I went to check for eggs, she was sitting in one spot and did now want to get up - nothing visibly wrong with her - I picked her up and moved her into the coop. By 9:30 she had passed away.
