Thought it was moult, but has been going on for over two months and the skin is very red. Eating commercial layer ratio plus BOSS. Feather loss is mainly on underside and around wings. Egg shell color is getting lighter. They are BR and just a year old. A leghorn that was in the coop was found dead today if this is of any significance. Any ideas? (I am posting this for my boyfriend)

Flip them upside down and look near their vent. I bet you'll find either lice or mites. To get rid of them, dust them with poultry dust or Sevin garden dust. Repeat in 10 days when the eggs hatch. Also give the coop a really good cleaning. The lice are poultry lice and live on feather dander- you cannot get them. Ivermectin will worm them and take care of the lice also, but there is a 14 day egg withdrawal period.
