Hen's eggs with blood on them

All right Jody, get back here. Since you are so experienced how do you tell if a bird is over weight. Or do the things you look for vary from one breed to another?

Robin are your birds freerange or penned...even if freeranged for a portion of the day...I posted once an article which explained that freerage birds are never going to achiece the weight of a penned bird/.

Robin, now don't be silly - you hafta weigh them.

If they are more than the standard calls for, they are overweight. If they are less, they are underweight. I think mine are all a bunch of fatties.

I know this because they jiggle when they walk. LOL just kidding! But my girls do free range and are hogs, so even with exercise, they eat too much.

Guess I need to go find myself a scale that will weight a bantam.

Well I don't have a way to weigh her but I picked her up to feel around the area below the Keel and around the legs. It was hot to the touch compared to the other one. They seemed to weigh the same so I am thinking so sort of infection. She also fussed quite a bit when I was feeling around . I put her in the Med. Size Dog carrier and put her in the shed that is not dark but certainly not well lit . With only the chicken door as a window. I started her on antibiotic. It is probably not the right one but I have one that was good for protozoa recomended for bumble foot in early stages, Selmet for Cocci and Agrimycian a borad Spectrum. I know Wes says not to use it but that is all they have at the feed store. I will see how she does with this treatment and go from there. I will check in with Fisrt State Vet supply too.

Its weird but now I can't find her mother. She is a sneek so she may have found her way into one of the other pens and is under the building where they all used to hang out before I rearranged the flock. I am on my way out the hunt her down now.

Update: I kept my little hen inside for two days on antibiotic. She laid an egg the first day with absolutely no sign of blood. She was stressing about getting out so after the second good egg, I decided that I overeacted. I let her out and she is with the other Faverolles and seems fine. I thought I may have mistaken the bird responsible for the blood stained egg. All other eggs have been clean. I don't know what was going on but it seems to be over with.

Just thought I would let y'all know.
