I have 3 hens and believe one of them may be broody-I know how to deal with that. I am wondering why all the girls are hanging out in the coop all the time and no one is laying. This has been going on for 2 days now. They will come out to eat when I bring them treats but go right back into the coop. Are they feeling sorry for "Big Mama"? Weather is beautiful and they have outside roosts so I am locking them out of the coop. Their very large run area is completely caged so predators will not be an issue. Is this thought process okay? Does someone more experienced recognize something that I do not? Any help would be appreciated.

Is your run shaded or in the sun? This time of year "beautiful" weather in your area is likely a bit on the warm side for their liking, which can lead to staying indoors vs. venturing out. Uncomfortable weather can also impact production. It is easy to look at a situation through our perception and think we know best for them, but with a situation like this I would defer to the birds and let them set the tone vs. trying to impose what I felt was best on them by locking them out - also consider that locking them out can actually add to the stress and that can actually have a negative impact on production.

Thank you! Their run is almost completely shaded but warm weather is upon us. I have a small pool for them (not sure they use it LOL) and they have extra shade if needed under their lanai. I love my girls but worry and just want to make sure they are happy. I will deal with my broody hen (gotten used to that) and let them do as they please :)
