Hi I do know that chicks get pasty butt because I’ve had to deal with that once but my hens seem to be getting a poopy butt. There is only a few of them like that out of them all and they still poop normally. What is causing this? And what can I do to stop it? Oh and also today we cut what we could off. We didn’t wanna get to close but we got off as much as we could.

Pick a few of your chickens up. Do they feel like they've lost a bit of weight? Are their combs more pale than before? Have you looked at their poops? Is it runny, like they have diarrhea, or does it appear fairly normal? What are the temps where you're at?

I picked them all up today and they all felt normal. Their combs look fairly normal too. Mostly all their poops are solid but not every single one. And it’s not like diarrhea it’s just like wet if you know what I mean. Not runny. And the temperatures have been all over these past few weeks. Some days we wake up to frost, sometimes it rains for days, and sometimes we are sweating like crazy. Tennessee for ya lol

I'll mention the 3 things that come to mind. 1. On the hot days, they're drinking a little more water than usual. This is not unusual, and can cause what you describe. 2. I would have a fecal done. It may be the onset of a wormload, and they may need worming. 3. IF there is a horrible odor coming from their vents, much worse than usual, and their vents are damp, it could be vent gleet. To clean their vents, I get a clean tote, put warmish water in it, just deep enough so they can sit in it without getting their backs wet. When you first put them in, they may be scared, but tend to settle down, and actually enjoy it. After about 10 minutes, or so, use a clean rag, and start gently cleaning their vent feathers.
