Hens have shut down... ]:o(

The lights are working for me, but my hens are 9 months old, and haven't started molting yet. I have one and sometimes two days a week that they don't lay.

Mine have slowed way down too. I let them have a break. I figure they deserve it. They'll be popping out eggs like crazy when the daylight lengthens again.

I have 12 Rhode Island Reds, and am still getting between 9-12 eggs a day. I have a 40 watt bulb outside thier coop in the yard. Will they stop anytime soon? I keep the light on to discourage preditors. Seems to work well.

:ya:yaHello Jonbanks-My reds are 7 months old. They were born the 1st of May. They have been laying since October 5 or around then, so give yours a few more months. They'll let you know when they lay one, because they raise alot of noise, like calling out to ya to say, "hey, look what I did!"

My three ne'er-do-well, no-account, worthless, freeloading blue Orpington hens were born May 14, and they don't even have dark red combs or even once pretended to squat. They complain with their special bawk-bawwwwking if I even suggest they start earning their living. I'd throw them in the pot, but they're so darn cute and sweet.
