Hens in trouble

[<3<3 I <3 Chickens <3<3]

I have a Buff Orpington and a Barred Plymoth Rock and they both have to lay an egg. I have two nesting boxed but, they only use one so the are cramed into one. What should I do???

Collect the eggs and make egg custard. It is great stuff!

Don't think it's a problem. Unless they are breaking eggs. Pretty common actually.

Yep - no problem. Sometimes they get one they prefer over another, no biggie. I believe they recommend 1 nesting box for every 3-4 hens. So with 2 hens and 2 boxes, it should be no problem for sharing.

Try putting an egg in the other box. I have done this/ and still do this, I have an egg that I move from box to box. It draws my girls' interest and they will check out the "new" box. Generally someone will lay in the egged box the next day. (egg is marked so I do not collect it by mistake - been using it for a bit now)

When I built some new boxes, I moved the egg in. The girls were so curious - seemed like everyone wondered who had been in there first.

I'v done that, but they move the egg back!!!!!!
