Talked to Murrey hatchery the other day--the breeders of the tukeys chicks are having a problem meeting their orders on time this year. Cancelled my order; not everyone can get poults and I don't mind waiting until next year. DH doesn't min either!! IS anyone else have similar problems with low egg counts? Just curious.

I'm in Idaho! Our Turkeys are about a month behind in their egg laying. The weather warms up a little and they lay a few eggs and then it gets cold and rainy and they stop! Last year I started incubating Turkey eggs the first of March. This year I just put the first small batch in the incubator yesterday! From what I have heard it's been slow starting for a lot of people this year! I have so many people asking for Turkey poults that I've even thought of trying to buy some eggs just so I could start filling some orders. In another month I'll more than likely have eggs running out my ears. I sure hate to eat Turkey eggs when I can sell the poults as fast as I do!

Maybe that's what they meant: the hens are slow to start lying this year. Maybe I got the info wrong! I will look forward to next year and maybe find a good breeder of Narrgansetts by then.

Our local Murdoch's has their turkey's crossed off as coming from Murray later this month on their schedule. I asked about it and the lady said that Murray was "having trouble hatching their eggs". This is just hear-say though....

I find it strange that they are cancelling orders way before most hatcheries even start shipping Heritage turkeys. I think there is more to it then that. Try one of the hatcheries that raise their own turkeys. Cackle or Privett Hatchery for example.

My turkeys geese and ducks started laying in January and where in full production by February. I had poults earlier than normal, so fertility clicked in early too. They even out produced my chickens. Snow and cold did not stop them.

Even here in Texas, mine started laying about a month late. I have my first poults to hatch this weekend. We had a long and colder winter than normal. Dang this global warming!

Yah . . .global warming can have the opposite effect--our weather over the last 5 years is more unstable. THe spring 2 yrs ago rained and rained into summer; this winter as much snow as the winter of '94 and it snowed again on April 1st !! Great April Fools joke!

Actually, snow in April is pretty normal, just the total amount was over the top. At least we didn't have any 90 degree weather in Jan/Feb like other years--that's just not normal. Hope the hens will be able to fill the orders--just for clarity MM DID NOT CANCEL my order, I did. There was a delay in the hens laying.
