where the red ring is one the foot of the hen, is where on my hen that there is no toe nail, she has them on every other toe just no this one.... and this toe isn't as long as the others..... she can still walk and run fine though......

Anyone have any help/guidance, i can get images if necessary.

I have a hen who is missing that same tonail/tip of her toe. We found her in a blizzard in Feb., and I'm unsure how long she'd been out in it. She had a couple black toenails as a result, and I think she lost it to frostbite. Maybe she got frostbite?

I have an ee hen that was hatched without her middle toenail so I would be interested in responses as well. Hopefully a knowledgable person comes along

One of our hens lost a couple of toenails over the winter due to frostbite. She had them for a while after the cold spell, but they eventually fell off. If you think the may be your hen's problem, a heating lamp and some petroleum jelly on her legs, feet, and comb can help. However, as in the case of our hen with the missing toenails, it won't always prevent every frostbite mishap.

I rescued 4 silkie hens that were living in knee high muck.. after cleaning them up & letting them roam freely, i noticed that at least 2 of them were missing half of their toes/nails. Theyre fine though. Ive also had a few hatched that way, missing a nail or two.
