I've seen this idea a number of times here, and I just can't see how it is physically possible...no thumbs...
But then any nest boxes I've seen have a lip to help keep the padding material in.

Has anyone seen a hen do this? Anyone have a video of it?

My hens do it too! I cannot for the life of me figure out how they do it...

Not sure how they do it, but I know they do. I have a broody that stole all the fertile eggs from a neighboring nest box. How do I know???

They were marked and different than our girls lay....very obvious that they are missing and surpise...they are under the broody.

I wish I had a video of how she did it.

You are so right! I put two broody hens with eggs in the two nests in the new "maternity ward" coop last night. The hen that seems to be an older more committed brooder moved her 3 eggs from her nest into the other gal's nest and shoved her out. I guess the idea of two hens being able to share the maternity ward coop was not such a good idea. Living and learning with chickens!
