Hens or Roos- Ameraucana and BLRW 12 weeks

pips&peeps :

I see a gold laced wyandotte pullet and a splash ameraucana cockerel.

BLRW stands for blue laced red wyandotte, that is the color of the bird on the green bowl. The hen you're asking about is a gold laced wyandotte, not a blue laced red. Different colors. I do think that one is a hen. The splash looks kinda rooish, but those legs are small and feminine looking to me, just not sure.

Splash Ameraucana looks like a roo
The Other looks like a GLW and it looks like a roo.
I too have a young GLW about 12 weeks (a little over) roo and he looks a great deal like your pic but I can take a pic for your comparison. Mine was born 08/04/10. Got him sexed as male from a hatchery....you know they would not get that part wrong...Ha Ha.

My money is always on whatever she says!

Plus, in addition to all that has been said, his stance says cockeral to me.

Side question on the Wyandotte, though...don't they come B/B/S also? What do you call the black variety of a Blue Laced Red? Black Laced Red? Or are they Gold Laced? Just curious.

Knowing the exact age of the chicks is important in sexing young chickens. To me, the comb on the GLW looked way too large for a 12 week old, but...... her body and coloring look very female, so....... I played detective and I think their age in this thread may be a little off. According to another thread you started, it looks like your GLW was around 8 weeks on 9/19, so that makes her about 16 weeks old now? and I'll change my guess to female. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=400491

Is
this the same Splash Ameraucana that you posted a pic of a few weeks ago? If so, she was 12 weeks old around 10/27, which would make her about 15 weeks old in these pics and I'll still say 'pullet'. I know she has a tall/masculine looking stance in that 3rd pic, but her comb in that middle pic is just so small. Ameraucana cockerels get dark pink combs much earlier - even at 12 weeks, I'd expect a much darker and larger comb on an Ameraucana cockerel.

These are different birds from earlier posts. These were hatched by me from breeder eggs so I'm sure on their dates. The others in earlier posts were purchased from breeders so not exactly sure on theirs. The one you are saying is a GLW was hatched from a BLRW egg? I thought is was just the darker or "black" variety? I'm new toBLRW so I'll obviously go with what you guys say!

Oh... darn. I was so sure they were the same chicks - so close in age and same two breeds. You were trying to figure the sex on three 8 week old BLRW in Sept, but only 1 of those was actually a BLRW - the other 2 were GLW, so I figured they were the same chicks. I never guessed you had both BLRW and GLW only 3-4 weeks apart. Now that the other 3 chicks are 15-16 weeks old, what did they turn out to be sexwise (were people correct in their assessments)?

How about that Splash - the one that is 15 weeks old? I'm guessing you must have decided it is a female, since you're hoping this one is a male? The two look very similar - I still think this one is a female.

Just like Donrae stated, BLRW stands for Blue Lace Red Wyandotte and GLW stands for Gold Laced Wyandotte. Same breed of chickens (Wyandottes), but different colors (Blue Laced Red and Gold Laced) - the egg marked BLRW was marked incorrectly - the chicken on the green bowl is a BLRW.

You do have quite a variety of some really pretty chickens.

Thank you Arizona! Bummer that the egg was marked incorrect but oh well, love it just the same

yes I figured out the other splash is a hen too. I must say I've been very lucky as I've gotten all girls but I totally need a man for my ladies!

Also, thanks to EVERYONE with input. I am new to both of these breeds and have been learning so much from all you guys! Maybe I can find someone who will trade me one of my pullets for a nice roo!!

There is another BLRW on the green bowl, she is a hen. I was curious about the darker chick on the ground. Any thoughts? I'm so torn on the splash, sometimes I think boy sometimes girl. Maybe I'll just have to be patient

All hens. And the "green bowl" looks like those turtle sand boxes. Might be wrong, been wrong before.
