I have 2 hens, 1 RIR about 18 months old and 1 silver laced wyandotte about 6 months. I have had the RIR since she was a baby and just added the wyandotte a few weeks ago.
The RIR was the dominant chicken with her 3 sisters (who are all gone now due to one problem or another), but now the new chicken has been pecking her like crazy. She has been pecking her chest area and also her bottom. My old girl is missing several feathers and has a few red spots where the skin under the feathers has been pecked. I don't know what to do!! I was told to get her a coop-mate because chickens do not do well on their own.. but it doesn't seem they get along too well. Any suggestions?
