hi
i have three white japanese bantams 15 weeks old 2 roosters one hen and i have a feeder and they eat it in a day and i have a trio of fully grown japanese and it takes them 3 days to eat it
why is this?

Maybe because the younger ones need more energy because they are growing.

Chickens will eat even past the point that they don't really need more. Our full grown ones will try to get food from us even when they have already had plenty, and have been pecking around the yard all day. If your other chickens are alowed outside, then keep in mind that they too probably get most of their food from the yard. Our chickens prefer greens and bugs to their hen scratch. Of course, they also prefer lasagna over both...

It takes more food to feed for growth than it does for maintenance. This is true for chickens, fish, people or other animals.
