Thanks! I'm not sure what it is. I don't think it's all skin, exactly, because she doesn't have skin in a lot of that area. At the moment. Maybe skin/down/scab/all dyed black from bluekote.... but I'm glad to know how the healing process went for your hen. That would be awesome if ellis heals up and a big ole scab falls off. Voila! New skin! We'll see next week.

Today's change was the first time there was stretchy, sticky stuff when i removed the bandage

It seemed like a melted (moist) scab.

I used a lot of vetericyn this time. Some antibiotic ointment, and gelatin/turmeric goo. This time I wet it with water, not vetericyn. Maybe healing with bleach is not so good. The vetericyn smells bleachy.

I used some corona lanolin cream up top and in the main area.
I sprayed bluekote down lower where the bandage doesn't cover.
She's fine, but very thin.

2 doses of antibiotic today

I just read this entire thread. Wow! Bravo on the incredible job you are doing. I think she will continue to heal.
As far as her dropping weight, my birds go crazy for a soupy baby bird formula. I use Kaytee Exact, which you can get at a regular pet store. Can you get them and offer it to her? It has saved my birds on more than one occasion.

She's funny. She eats as long as i stand there in the doorway by her. If i get distracted and wander away, she leaves and goes outside

Not necessarily. Most of mine will eat it on their own. I have one hen who needs occasional hand feeding to get her through a rough patch to keep her energy up. Maybe your girl feels vulnerable and that’s why she’ll only eat with you nearby?

She'll eat by herself, too, but not enough. I have 2 other hens that I'd like to join with her. They have free ranged together in the yard a little. I know i can't really put them together until she heals. I think ellis isn't too happy because her earlobes that used to be red are now white and red, or whitish. Not red.

The submissive hen has gone for Ellis a few times. She runs to me. I actually have Ellis because she attacked a hen in her old flock. And most small critters. Interesting to see the tables turned.
