This is Ellis's wound currently, before getting it wet. It formed a new scab, down below. I'm not sure why. The scab up higher is detached, just held on by stitches. The dry skin patch is still peeling off. And she's a lively one! She's all over the place.

After a little vetericyn and a photo shoot, i bluekoted her. maybe the other hens won't be interested in pecking

I would wait until her scabs are gone before you reintroduce her. Bluekote is a visual deterrent, but boy- they can still smell blood (scabs included) and will peck right through the bluekote. Once it's just bare skin with no scabs, the bluekote might help fill in the visual field for the other hens to leave it alone - but I would not rely on it until the scabs are gone. It would be awful to make it this far only for the others to rip the wounds back open.

Sounds like she's rebounding nicely! Feather wise- plucking or two won't stimulate regrowth. I was referring to blood feathers (when the feather first grows in and has a blood supply) having been rudely pulled by flock members -- which I now realize I probably didn't distinguish in my post--- those grew right back in.

In the future for livestock and bird cuts. If it’s a good fresh slice wash it out with iodine dry it and use superglue to put it back together. This is the original purpose for it as a field remedy during Vietnam

Thank you! I was seriously contemplating supergluing her and got resistance. Glad to hear its origins- i thought it was a nasa thing.
My husband and i superglue our cuts regularly.
