Hi there,
I have a hen named Edna that has a very swollen eye. It appeared to be injured about a month ago and then started to heal; all of this sudden her eye was swollen shut. I tried to clean it out with eye wash and noticed a yellow mass in the back corner or her eye. It seemed to be puss but wouldn’t come off with q-tips and now seems to be attached to the eye. After cleaning the area with eye wash and applying terramycin her eye still doesn’t seem to be getting better, almost worse. We would hate to lose her and besides the eye seems to be in good health: eating, drinking, socializing with my other hens (14 total). I’m lost as to what to do at this point and am becoming concerned that it could spread to my other hens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like she has some pecking or other injuries, due to the black marks around her face and wattles. Her eye may need to have the puss removed, and then cleaned with saline eye wash and Terramycine eye ointment (from a feed store) applied twice a day. These types of eye infections can be due to respiratory diseases (MG or coryza,) or from a peck wound or something that has gotten into the eye.). Here is a video about removing the pus:

And this video if the above does not work:
