My 3 hens pinned my 3 month old turkey under the porch yesterday and proceeded to peck him until he was bloody and bruised. Poor dude had a hematoma the size of a grape on his noggin.
Dummy just sat there and took it.
I put some neosporin on his head and he is fine.He has some wounds but they look superficial and I am sure he will be ok.I got rid of my Rooster last week for the same reason.I got rid of the hens last night .Gave them to the same guy who has the Rooster.The guy has 25 acres of land with a bunch of different animals .. so they are in good hands. I have 2 more chickens but not worried about them since they are Banty size and dont bother the Trukey poult.
I just couldnt believe they would go after him like they did.
I knew something was up when the 11 guineas started to make a aweful racket .They knew he was getting attacked. He lives with the guineas and they hang together all day..
Poor Jive McStrutt`N Stuff prolly has a bad headache this morning.
The sweet hens who are so dutyful at laying eggs and come running when I call them.. are turkey haters.. They are lucky they are not in the freezer right now.I wanted to.. trust me.. I really wanted to.
Gonna take some pics once I wake up a bit more.. no coffee yet ..
Poor dude is all purple and blue ..His head is usualy nice and pink.. all the blood under his skin makes it blue now.The hematoma went down tho.. thats a good thing.I was worried that it would stay there and dry up and clot really bad.
he acts and eats ok.. so i think besides his head and his ego.. nothing else got bruised
