Hello all, I have dealt with Bumblefoot before, but never on the top of the foot/leg. The hen's (her name is Buckbeak) leg is very swollen and hard and red and hot, which makes me think Bumblefoot, but evenly across her leg. I have no idea where to cut. Also, I'm worried that I'll cut into a tendon or something because it's her leg, not the fleshy sole of her foot. Any second opinions? Bumblefoot or not?

Maybe a week ago There was the black Bumblefoot scab, so I operated and got out some still liqued pus. The bottom of her foot healed up and is now squishy as normal, not red, not hot, pretty much completely normal.

The infection could have spread up into her leg.
Is a vet an option?
She may need antibiotics to at the point to know the infection out.

Buckbeak has had Bumblefoot before and we took her to a vet. It was just too expensive. This is the first day that i've been working on it. I haven't cut in yet, but I've been applying topical antibiotics. I'm going to try to get oral ones, but I don't think i can without a prescription.

Are you in the USA?
Tractor Supply still sells Tylan 50 for cow/goats and many use it for their birds.

Yes, i'm in the US. Ill try Tylan 50. Any idea on dosage? Also when i googled it there was powder and injectable. Powder would probably be easier to dose right. The last time I weighed Buckbeak, she was 6 and a halfish pounds.

"Adverse reactions, including shock and death, may result from overdosage in baby pigs.

Do not attempt injection into pigs weighing less than 6.25 pounds (0.5 mL) unless the syringe is capable of accurately delivering 0.1 mL."

This was on a website for tylon 50.

It doesn't appear like bumble foot unless the infection is wide-spread... And if that where the case, you should see a place of entry (scab) that should be pretty visible. However, I can think of few other options unless her leg is fractured/broken. Was this gradual or sudden?

After this, pretty much the same day the bandages came off for good, she started sligtly limping. Now, a week later, she's limping very badly. However, she can still bend all her limbs

I read this on another thread:

I have a 1 year old pekin with bumblefoot. She is free range, she first came down with bumblefoot several weeks ago. I treated it then by opening, cleaning and wrapping it and putting duramycin in her water for a couple of weeks. She seemed better, but all of a sudden it is much worse than before. Her leg is hot to the touch, her foot is pretty swollen again and she is limping pretty bad. I am cleaning and wrapping the foot again but I wanted a stronger antibiotic this time so I got injectable Tylan 50. How much should I give her and how many times per day?? And where should I inject it?? Thanks in advance!!

This is pretty much exactly what happened to me.
