So shouldn't we get a few eggs a week from our 1 year 1 month old buff orpington hen?
She started laying in the spring.

If it is more than a year old, that means the hen is going into its second winter. If you want to keep getting eggs each winter, either buy chicks or hatch chicks in the spring or summer.
