hens wont sit on eggs?

Here are a few simple rules for beginners:

1) Hens usually go broody in spring (they go by the length of the day). Of course, there are exceptions, but I said these rules were simple.
2) All hens don't go broody (some never do).
3) You can't make a hen go broody by leaving her eggs in the nest. This could even lead to egg eating. If you want to leave some golf balls in the nest as "encouragement," that's fine.
4) Some hens won't hatch chicks even if they do go broody. They'll quit in the middle. A good broody hen is a valuable thing.
5) If a hen goes broody, she'll pick the nest and the eggs she wants to sit on. It doesn't matter if they're not hers (or even if they're golf balls). She couldn't care less.

add to this -- "Blondie" laid 19 eggs before she went broody; possibly more but that's how many were in the nest when she SAT --- there is at least one little head popping out from under her, pecking, as of this morning --- "Black Maria" has now laid 21 eggs but hasn't gone broody yet (have been saving her eggs in case she does ... eating oldest first ...)

miss prissy. i was in ohio with my family and there is no connection out there! lol.
and we have the pairs seperated so there not scared to lay. I just am getting a little frustrated. i want a chickie!! i see you guys haveing alot hatching and i have none. but at least there laying right?

i finally do!
my dad and i are gonna start soon due to the fact the hens wont sit on the eggs. lol. anyway mp what would you use to cut a cooler for light or something?

A drill and a skill saw works great.

If your dad is willing why don't you order a thermostat from GQF? It is most reliable.

or Maybe show him the 1588 and see if he will buy you one? Hmmm?

I have a polish. She has been brooding for 1week, but she won't sit on eggs. I place them under during the day and at night, she just moves them away. Can I help her? Or let her do her own thing?
