Just wanted to let everyone know that the Hensavers saddles with Predator Eyes on them did not deter hawk attacks, so don't waste your money on this option. The local red tail seemed to be only interested in the Silkies in my flock, so I outfitted them all with these saddles over a year ago. The hawk attacks continued occasionally as usual.

However, I think the saddles are very well made, durable and protective, and does buy the chix some time if the hawk doesn't break their necks and is trying to sink its talons into their bodies. The silkies only free range when we are home and several times we have run outside after hearing the panicked calls and would see the red tail on top of a Silkie or dragging it away. After scaring the hawk away, an examination of the Silkie would show it to be physically unharmed. The saddle might show light scratching or snagging, but no punctures.
