Are there any herbs I can put in water to repel mosquitos? Currently, in my area, we are infested. I spray permethrin on the walls of the coop but im not sure if thats safe to spray daily or every other day. Does anyone know if it is to spray daily? I avoid spraying them directly it works for sure i just fear them getting sick over it. it hurts my heart knowing there are a ton of mosquitos at night while I sleep soundly..

As far as mixed permethrin goes, I use 1oz per gallon. is that enough? How long should it last after spraying? I feel like once it dries its ineffective.

Hmm, I'm not informed as too wether or not its safe to spray so often, but maybe I can suggest some other things as well.
A small fan blowing just enough to create a draft would be beneficial to repel bugs. What about a natural horse fly spray? A fly spray that contains Citronella may also repel mosquitoes.
That seems a like a great idea! I have a pretty big fan. Although, I fear that particular fan maybe too high of air. I have 51 total in the coop.

There is a difference between repelling and killing. Permethrin kills but does not repel, others repel. Repellants repel but do not kill. Some good advice above on repellents, Citronella, geraniums, lavender. I have tried citronella and it is somewhat effective but it is hard for us to keep alive. Maybe more better in your area. Some investigation on the net will probably reveal others with magical powers. Try a few plants of each around your area and see what happens. And a fan in your roosting area will surely keep the blood suckers off @ night. Hope this helps.

I use a lot more. I use the same solution as I use for mites and such. There is no egg withdrawal period and it's safe to use on poultry. Good luck...
