Found this little monster hanging out under a door mat I had draped over a stump to dry

Well, she looks normal now. It was bedtime for me when she started. I have never actually watched it happen before.

I tried to get her to move for a better picture but she flicked hairs at me. She's never been a friendly spidey.

What a beauty! Don't worry, they aren't actually as dangerous as media makes them out to be. Yes, their venom packs a punch and will probably make you sick, but unless you're already immunocompromised or have certain health issues, the worst you'd probably only have to deal with a few days of flu-like symptoms and localized pain. Is it still a good idea to go to the hospital for a black widow bite? Probably, if only to treat/manage the symptoms, but widows aren't actually deadly to the vast majority of people. Same with the brown recluse, which is even less medically significant than the black widow but somehow gets just as bad, if not a worse reputation than widows do.

If you want to keep her, I say go for it! Just make sure she's in an enclosure that she can't escape and that's appropriate to her natural habitat (lots of bark, wood, rocks). Then when she does pass away, you can keep her body!

Otherwise, I'd put her out in a wood pile or something, where she belongs.

She really is so gorgeous!
