She is a Lasiodora parahybana. One of the largest species of tarantula in the world, and still growing.

Both of her colors are beautiful!

I remember meeting a tarantula at summer camp when I was a kid. Strangely, THAT didn't bother me! She tickled when she walked, and seemed generally pretty chill.

Once they are in your hand most of the more handleable species are pretty chill to be fair. I love their little paws!

My new little Macleays spectre leaf insects arrived in the mail today! I've missed having them since my last big lady died. They are precious!

New colour too! I've always had light yellow/beige ones.

Does anyone know what spider this is? It's on a web outside, but not an orb or funnel. This is the view of the spider's belly (it's always upside down). Parts seem almost iridescent!

That's an orchard orb weaver! Not sure which species you have over there but here's a few pics of ones we have here:

The iridescence on the underside of their abdomens attracts fruit flies and gnats and other little flies!

Very amazing to watch them rebuild their webs each day, they work so fast and methodically

It really is a pretty spider. I love to see it; it lives on my deck!

Here's a video of an orchard orb weaver from 2023. We get so many of them on our property, especially around the deck and the crabapple tree. See how fast they work? It's incredible
