One of my duck hens went missing again -- 2 tried unsuccessfully to sit on clutches in the bitter, bitter cold...so now it's warm! Crawling around in the barnyard with a flashlight -- Where is she? Oh, of course! Under the goat barn...

Wish her good luck with this clutch! Her name is Henny Penny.

What is it with ducks and goats? My ducks free-ranged over winter and settled in the goat shed for shelter. When one of my goats had a baby that died in the cold, I moved the whole herd, including the surviving goat baby, into a section of the sheep barn. The next day the whole duck flock had taken up residence there as well.

My chickens, on the other hand, prefer the sheep. They especially like to stand on sheep on cold winter days--- the wool keeps the chickens' feet warm....

Hmmm. And I thought the chickens just massaged the goats because they wanted to make them FEEL good!!!
